David J. Smith, SENIOR BUSINESS ADVISOR
 

Dave has solid domestic and international business experience in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. He speaks fluent Spanish, good Portuguese, and conversational Italian.

Prior senior management positions are in the areas of general management, operations, business development, marketing, sales and consulting. In addition to strategic planning and business development, his expertise lies in building stronger business relationships and has a proven track record of turning around problematic businesses. Based on this experience plus doing business in the ever changing Latin America markets, a proactive versus a reactive business approach has always been successful.

One of the key ingredients for a successful business is to create a positive and fun atmosphere for all employees to flourish and be productive. Based on establishing this type of environment and fostering a teamwork approach plus a "can do" attitude, consecutive years of record operating results were achieved.

Also known as “Professor Smith,” Dave is an adjunct professor and teaches both graduate and undergraduate classes in International Marketing. These courses place special emphasis on building stronger brands and via brand recognition, brand awareness which results in increased brand loyalty. These are some of the main ingredients for both higher sales and profits.

His industry experience is in pharmaceuticals, consumer/OTC, specialty baby products, medical devices, drug delivery technology, crop protection chemicals, animal nutrition and health products.

Dave graduated cum laude from Saint Michael’s College with a BA in Political Science, an MA from Tulane University and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  

Past associations have been as Board member at the Johns Hopkins Schools of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC and Board of Directors of the American School of Madrid (ASM).
